This is my very first post in an adoption forum (little nervous )

DH and I just finally decided on an Ethiopian adoption after about 5 months of intensive research. We LOVE our agency (PM me for details) and have requested an infant girl. Our home study is this weekend, wish us luck!

I think we are pretty far along as far as being paper-ready for the 1-600A and even the dossier, so hopefully once the home study is finished things will go quickly for us. Is that just wishful thinking LOL?

Good luck everyone.

Welcome to all the people who have decided to move forward with an Ethiopia adoption!! It is a fun and interesting ride. And I would return to Ethiopia in a heartbeat to adopt another one if I could just find the money for it all. Best of luck with your adoptions and please keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome to the Ethiopia program. Hope your journey is a short one. Depending on agency some families are flying thru the process right now..especially for little boys.

hi
i'm Zanne wife of Chris and mom to bio boy Nathanael age 10. We've just got word that our dossier has just been sent to Foreign Affairs in Ottawa. Everything should head overseas sometime this summer. We're asking for a girl about 2.

Hi,
I haven't posted here for awhile, but we have a referral of a boy (2) & girl (9) sib group from Ethiopia, and court is scheduled for Friday. If everything goes smoothly, my husband will be traveling in July to pick them up. Julie

Red face

Greetings,
My name is Chrissy. Wife to Ben and mother to my sweet bio daughter Chloe (1). This is my first time on the forum. We are currently adopting from Ethiopia. We are filling out our paperwork for a little boy in the 0-6 age range. My husband and I are open to bringing home a special needs child and feel really good about pursuing HIV+ adoption. -Because of this our wonderful agency is helping us fly through the process in an effort to bring these loving waiting children home. We only started this April ('09), our homestudy will be on the way to state approval shortly followed by our I600A, and we are already working on our dossier before the ink can even dry. It sounds like we'll have a referral as soon as all of our paperwork can catch up to us. Let's hope our bank account stays ahead!
Excited and feeling great about our adoption journey,
~Chrissy

one or two

HI, I am Elizabeth, we adopted from Guatemala 3 years ago, and have started the process for Ethiopia, we already have our 171H, but the agency decided our homestudy was too long, so we have to wait for that to get rewritten, and are hoping that the wait for a referral will not be too long. Does anyone know how long after referral that travel is coming for most people? ?Thanks.

Referral to Travel

Hi,
It varies a lot by agency and even by case. You will generally travel 6 weeks after court. People with my agency Wacap are getting really quick court dates; usually about 2-3 months but sometimes only 2-3 weeks after referral. Our referral was April 27; court is next Wed June 24, and we anticipate travel August 5.

Hi everyone. We brought our wonderful 5yr old boy home from Ethiopia in June. After being victims of adoption fraud with our Guatemala adoption, we have been truly blessed by our sweet little boy. We started this adoption in January and brough him home in June. I highly recommend anyone considering adopting from Ethiopia to do it - they are the most loving and wonderful children. And I highly recommend adopting an older child - they are amazing!!

I originally posted on this thread in Jan/Feb 09.
We got our referral in April for Helina, who was 3 weeks old at the time. She is now 5.5 months old and we are still waiting for her abandonment clearance paperwork as she had gotten held up in the court suspension this summer. We have been to visit her twice and are going again over Labor Day weekend. She's a darling.
