Update on Singles

Well, I spoke with about 8 different agencies, and it looks like no one is accepting singles at this point. One agency said that they should have more information in about a month.

I am shaken and sad, and trying to think about what it is that I plan to do at this point. I think I'll wait the month or so, and see if there is an update at that point.

I did some research on Haiti, a country, which on many levels, makes more sense to me in terms of the community that I live in. The situation there does not look good either. Apparently, there has been a real backlog of cases not getting moved through the system. Several good orphanages are full with children who have families waiting for them, and although there are many children they would like to move into the orphanages, they have no more room until the kids living there are processed and placed with their families.

I also have given a lot of thought to the option of older children from Mexico, and I am undecided.

Time to sit back, think about my priorities, and decide either to move in a different direction, or to continue waiting.

While I can't say that I am surprised --- I am very sad about this. Sad for me because I want another child. Sad for my daughter because I want her to have a sibling. But also sad for the children who wait for a family.

I hope you find your child.

Have you looked into Colombia? I believe they allow singles, though there is a rather long in country stay and I dont' know how that would work for you or your daughter.

Good luck!

Have you considered adopting from Russia? Its a little high compared to most countries but its been very stable over the last year. Most of the children are 12-18 months by the time they come home.

Another country could be Taiwan. However, singles are only allowed to adopt special needs children. Taiwan takes off about 4-6K in foreign fees if you adopt special needs.

I am sorry that your dreams of adopting from Ethiopia may not be realized. I certainly hope that while this door shuts, another will open to you!
