Questions - DUI, depression, age of children already in home
Hi,
My husband and I are looking into adopting from Ethiopia. My husband has 2 DUI's in the past (12 and 15 years ago) and I am on Wellbutrin for chronic depression. My depression is completely controlled with the med, but I will be on it for life as in my case it is a genetic/biological thing. Our agency has said this may add up to 3 strikes against us and that Ethiopia may not accept us as PAPs. I was wondering if anyone out there has a similar history and has still adopted and/or been told they do not qualify. Also, I heard that Ethiopia requires that there be three years between the age of the youngest child already in the home and the child being adopted. Is this right? Are there exceptions? We would like to do a special needs adoption, so would that make a difference (I know some countries are slightly more lenient on SN PAPs). Any help or insight anyone could give us would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! Christine |

Christine,
I can't answer about the DUI or depression, but as far as the ages of children in the home... that is very much agency specific. I know many people who have adopted out of birth order from ET. For us, there will be 2 years between our boys, but we were going to be adopting a little girl who was 5 months younger than our son. |
