I'm excited to announce that yesterday I accepted a referral for a 5 year old little girl named M. Of course, she is absolutely beautiful (aren't they all)! Right now I just really hope we can make it through court before the closure in August.

Congrats!!! You must be excited. I would think you would have no problem getting through court before it closes. I know things have slowed down since my adoption but I received my referral on June 29th and I made in through court in 2006. Keep us posted on your process.

B) What closure? DH and I were thinking of changing countries to Ethiopia -- we are currently with Vietnam, but won't make the deadlines.

The courts in Ethiopia close every year for most of August and September. That means there can be a delay if you get a referral before closure but the court opens again and adoptions start flowing again.

Turning down a referral varies by agency as to reasons you can or can't. Choosing from a photo would also vary depending on how many kids the agency has available. Some agencies have lists of waiting kids that are older or have special needs but I don't know of any agency that would have a list of waiting kids that are toddler or younger. Therefore, you'd probably be offered a referral that meets your requests when one became available.
