New here, sorta
Just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions. We are currently waiting on a referral from Guatemala, probably about 2 months from a referral, and I have felt God leading me away from Guatemala for the last two weeks. Just days before all the issues and scares that have popped up. My agency feels we will be ok because we have our I-171H. But the peace has left me and we are looking into Ethiopia. I know there are issues in every country but I don't want to sign up for something where it is obvious things need to change (Guatemala). The Ethiopian program has only been opened to my agency for 2 months. Their orphange just opened two weeks ago. Only 11 families in so far. Anyway, to sum this up, is it really safe to travel there? I am scared to death to travel to a country that has war all around it! Did anyone travel and did you feel safe? Thanks

I traveled in August/September 2006. It was really safe. It is nothing like you have ever seen but overall very safe. There is very little crime in Addis Ababa. I was with a guide at all times. I know others who stay at local hotels and use taxis. But I never felt unsafe while there.

We felt totally safe!
Hi,
DH and I (and our 4 year old bio son) travelled to Addis just two weeks ago, to visit our little one... We walked or took a taxi everywhere, and never once felt nervous or unsafe (we did NOT use a guide). Every person that we encountered was friendly, often stopping to touch our sons hair, or kiss his hand.... I will be travelling back alone to pick up our daughter, and DH made the statement while we were preparing to return home, that.... "I was worried about you coming here by yourself to pick up DD, but after being here for a week, I know I have nothing to worry about.." I am very excited about the trip back in a few weeks. As with anywhere you travel, you should be cautious, and vigilant... but I don't think that you are in any greater risk there, than your hometown... We felt very safe.... Good luck in your decision.... and feel free to IM me, if you have any other questions! Mandie
