Travelling WITHOUT Yellow Fever vaccine?

Hi all: Just wondering if anyone has travelled to Ethiopia without the Yellow Fever Vaccine. From what I understand it is manditoroty in some frican countries but not Ethiopia. I have had bad reactions to vaccines in the past and I am concerned about getting this one.
Thanks for any info.
Warmly,
Sebrina

this is from the cdc website
CDC - Yellow Book: [5] Yellow Fever/Malaria Requirements, by Country - CDC Travelers' Health

"Yellow fever vaccine entry requirements are necessary for travelers to comply with in order to enter the country."

I spoke with my agency and they told me that if I cannot have the vaccine due to allergies or doctor reccomendation then I need to get a Medical Contra Indication form from a travel clinic.
Thanks,
Sebrina

As I understand the requirement, the yellow fever certificate is only necessary if you are traveling from an endmic zone. As the U.S.A is not an endmic zone, the certificate would not be required but is recommended by the CDC. Am I reading that incorrectly? We were concerned because we thought of traveling to visit our sponser family in Ghana before heading to Ethiopia, in that case, because we would be coming from Ghana which is in the endmic zone, we would need the certificate.

We did not get the Yellow Fever vaccine and no one asked for it (or anything else). I've had it before (when I did Peace Corps) but I really didn't feel like this trip put me at risk, so I didn't bother.

I didn't get any vaccines for the trip, although I did make sure my polio and tetanus were up to date.

I also took anti-malarials with me, as malaria is an issue in lower altitudes than Addis (it is not an issue in Addis) and we planned to travel outside Addis.

Hope this helps.

Yellow Fever is not required. I am in touch with dozens of families who have traveled to Ethiopia over the past year, and I don't think one single person has been asked to present any record of immunization.

Yellow Fever is more of an issue at lower elevations. I don't think it's a big deal to pass on this one.

yellow fever

I think i read in my packet that it is not required, but if there is an out break you would not be able to leave country with out certification that you had had the shot.
