Roomate and job questions
I was wondering if the fact that my husband and I have two roomates would affect our homestudy. We have a 5 bedroom home and there is another room for a baby. The roomates are very close friends of ours. We actually plan to be out of that house and renting it to them within the next year or so, and buying a place closer to town. I was just wondering if this would affect our applications at all...
Also, we own and operate a business. My husband recently resigned from his regular job to work with me here at the studio. Now that we have the time and money to raise a child, we know the time is right, but will agencies have a problem with the "no real job" status? I feel like something will go wrong, and I know that is not the attitude I should have right now...I'm just really excited to get started.. Thanks! |

The roommate situation might affect you since they aren't relatives. I don't know though. I do know that anyone age 18 and over living in your home will need to be fingerprinted and have a background check done.
I know of several self employed parents. They'll want to be sure you have adequate income, health insurance etc. and if that is proven, then in general it should be fine. There may be some agencies that would prefer a year's time of self employment proof, but I don't know that for fact.

We had a boarder (also a good friend of ours...) during our last homestudy. He went through the criminal and child welfare checks and was interviewed by the SW. We were also self-employed during our last homestudy. It didn't affect anything. We just had to show that our income could support an addition to our family. In fact, we were making more $$ at the time then when DH and I were both working during the homestudy for our first child. HTH... and best of everything on your journey! |
