adopting from ethiopia

my husband and i are looking into adopting form ethiopia. we are working on our homestudy and looking into international agencies. if anyone has any information for us that would be helpful we would appreciate it. we are considering adopting two kids, either twins or young siblings or unrelated kids but would like the oldest to be under 3 as our youngest son is 3. if anyone has adopted two young ones like that i would love to hear about pros and cons. etc. we have 2 biological sons (3 and 5) and would like to hear from people about how older sibling dealt with it all. also recommended books would be great. i just read "there is no me without you" and "are those your kids?". oh also time lines. it seems like every agency gives a different time line. why and are they at all accurate.

Smile Ethiopia

I'm so glad you're considering Ethiopia! it is a great country to adopt from and there is so much need.

Right now I think it is hard for agencies to predict exactly how long the process will take. From what I've heard in talking with adoptive families, it is reasonable to expect you could have a child within a year of getting your paperwork sent off to Ethiopia.

Recently there has been such a surge in interest in Ethiopian adopion that the Ethiopian government is busier than ever getting cases processed through court, and getting passports and visas issued. This is making the process take longer than it did a year ago.

People open to older kids will probably wait the shortest period of time for a referral of a child, as well as those open to boys. Those who will experience the longest wait to be matched are families who specify that they want an infant girl.

There are lots of sibling groups available. But again, it is the families open to older kids who will wait the shortest period of time, since the majority of families request children under the age of 5.

All the best as you begin this adventure!!
