travel

My plans are all set for traveling to Ethiopia to get my daughter. I am leaving NC on Sunday August 27th and flying into DC. I am spending the night at a hotel so that I can be at the airport for my 10:10am flight. I could have flown into DC the morning of the 28th but I have such incredibly bad travel karma that I just didn't want to take the chance of missing my flight out of DC. I will arrive in Ethiopia at 8:45am local time on the 29th. I plan on dropping off my luggage at the guest house, changing clothes and going straight to the orphanage to meet my daughter! I am staying at the agency guest house with 2 other families that are traveling the same week. My Embassy appointment is on August 31st. I will leave Ethiopia at 10:30pm on September 3rd and arrive back in North Carolina around 2pm on the 4th. I have decided to fly Ethiopian Airlines. This is in part because I got a decent price for the tickets and because it is the most direct. Since I hate to fly I think the fewer number of take-offs and landings the better.

Samantha
only 26 more days until I meet my daughter!

yippee!

I am so excited for you Samantha. I flew Korean Air bringing home my son as an infant. I was very happy to do this because on our flight home, the flight attendants were so attentive and helpful. They took the baby and helped to put him to sleep-singing korean songs to him. The flight was 18 hours long straight home. The other passengers who were all Korean were so wonderful too. They helped walk the baby around the plane.
I wonder if the experience will be similar for you with your new baby.

That's very exciting! We are hoping to fly through Ethiopia on our way to South Africa for our adoption - would love to hear what you thought of it and where to stay. It looks so beautiful and what a fascinating culture. What are your daughter's cultural roots?

Good luck to you and congrats!

Hi Samantha,
Just wondering where in NC you live. I live in NC as well, and our son, adopted from Ethiopia, has been home now for 1.5 years (he is now 2 years, 2 months). We also traveled to get him. Have a great trip and let me know where in NC you are if you get the chance!
