We are adopting from Ethiopia. Things began in November 2005 and the homestudy process started early December. We are hoping to be done the homestudy early March. I really wish the process was not so lengthy. The excitement that builds up just wishes it was next year already!!

Check out our blog - lots to read there: www.hattonfamily.blogspot.com

I would love to see this forum grow as well.

I am 27, single and going through CAFAC (Canadian agency) to adopt an infant from Ethiopia. I am currently in the middle of my homestudy. The first visit I was sooooo nervous, but yesterday was great. I feel more comfortable with the social worker, and we talked a lot about my childhood and my parents.
I started this process November 18, 2005. I am keeping a blog as well here it is.

How new?
DH, ds (4) and I are sending our dossier in today (finally - after many delays for which we aren't responsible aaargh) and then we'll be waiting for our referral! We'd originally been on a time line to be traveling this month, so it's hard right now, but we know it'll be worth it all when our child comes home.
Best of luck to everyone starting out!

We are also adopting from ethiopia. Our dossier was sent out last month and are trying to wait anxiously for our referral. Glad to see a little more activity on this board.

I'm here... but haven't started

We are planning on adopting from Ethiopia, but we must wait for the court date to finalize the adoption of our son (who will have been w/ us 2 years in a little over a week, but he came as foster only) before we can officially apply and begin.
We are hoping to adopt a sibling group and based on the answers to our questions and situation, we're planning on using CWA, please pm if you have any feedback on them.

We started in late October/early November, and our homestudy is dragging on. I hope it will be done in another week or so, and we can have our dossier done late February or early March. I had hoped we'd travel by the end of April, but that seems less and less likely with our homestudy delays.

In any case, we'll be requesting a baby under 12 months (no gender specified--so probably a boy!).

Bluedaisy, I feel your pain and am so so sorry. Our h/s visits were completed in August, and we didn't get a draft of our h/s until December, and didn't have it corrected/approved until mid-January. As you saw, our dossier just went out on Friday.
We had expected to be bringing our baby home this month, and are now anticipating a longer wait (early summer, hopefully). It's hardest on ds (4), I think, who has been looking forward to "his" baby since those h/s visits.
Good luck to you.
Oh, and boys are awesome. Had there been an unequal wait when we started this, or had ds not gotten attached to the idea of a sister, we'd be bringing a boy home too, I'm sure. I love being ds's mom, and so it makes me a little sad that boys are sometimes less preferred. Yes, noisy, yes, busy. But awesome. You won't be sorry.

Meimaemomma, what a crazy wait for your homestudy! That is really a long time.

I think our agency didn't realize that we could have our dossier in before we had our I171H and so they weren't worried about the dates at all.

I was really anxious about a week ago, but, thankfully, that has passed. I've actually got a really busy week this week, thank goodness.

Congrats on having your dossier done! That must feel good after your long wait.

Thank you. It is a relief, but now that there isn't anything I can do but wait, I don't know what I'll do with myself emotionally. I'm busy, but there's nothing I can really do for her, if that makes sense. I'm knitting like crazy!

Beginning adoption process

My husband and I are now in the process of submitting our application. I am so excited! I would love to adopt a little girl from Ethiopia. We have so much love to share. Here's hoping the process isn't too long and convoluted!

Congratulations, Amy! The process is very straightforward, particularly when compared with other international programs. Still, there are ups and downs and unanticipated delays and reliance on other people and other governments . . . If you know that, and if you don't get your heart set on a timeline (as we did!), you can do it and it seems to go smoothly. Best of luck to you on your journey.
