Free - Ukrainian/Russian/Roma concert in Columbus, OH

This Saturday, July 28th, the Columbus suburb of Grandview Heights will put on its annual Lazy Daze Arts Festival in front of the Library on 1st Avenue (walking distance from Grandview Avenue). A special performance by New York based Russian folk dance and music ensemble "Barynya" will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the Lazy Daze stage on the Library's grounds courtesy of the Ohio Arts Presenters Network. This act will top off the day's entertainment and the concert is free!

New York based Ensemble Barynya program contains Russian, Ukrainian, Russian Gypsy, Cossack, and Klezmer dancing, music, songs, virtuoso performances on balalaika, garmoshka (folk button accordion), contrabass balalaika or contrabass, Gypsy and classic guitars.

COSTUMES: Colorful Russian, Gypsy, Cossack, Ukrainian and Klezmer stage outfits: "sarafans", "rubashkas", "sapogis", and "kosovorotkas" . Each dance number performed in appropriate and authentic costumes, all hand-made by Svetlana Gavrilova.

MEMBERS: Six dancers, three musicians and one singer of the ensemble Barynya used to perform with world reknowned Moiseev Dance Company, Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company, Don Cossacks of Rostov Don, Andreev State symphonic balalaika orchestra, Moscow State Folk Center "Russian Song", Ensemble of Black Sea Navy Dancers, Riverdance, Beryozka Dance (Moscow) and others.
