Any EE countries for under 20k?

Just curious, it seems like everything is so expensive. We are looking into Kaz, Uzbek, and Kryg right now. I am also looking into a place that only requires one trip around 2 weeks or less. Do you know of any countries like that, central Asian or EE? I know Russia is expensive and requires 2 trips so that is out.

PS, I posted this on other boards too so please bear with me .

Thanks so much!

Melissa

Melissa,

If you are looking for special needs or a waiting child, then under $20K is realistic. Otherwise, I don't think you'll find an EE program for less than that. Could be wrong but w/ agency fees and travel expenses, I highly doubt it. If you'd like any info on special needs or waiting children, write me privately and I could tell you more. I wish you all the best on your adoption journey.

Take care,

I am interested in finding out the same information that was requested earlier in this thread.

If any of you could provide that to me via pm, I would appreciate it!

Thanks,

Adoption from Eastern European countries, particularly Russia, tends to be very expensive. Some people try to cut costs by adopting independently, but I really wouldn't recommend this approach unless you have excellent contacts in the foreign country and are thoroughly familiar with U.S. immigration law, the foreign adoption process, medical issues in international adoption, etc. With Russia, in particular, independent adoption is risky because the country is moving towards banning the practice.

If cost is an issue, you would do much better adopting from Africa or Asia. The base cost tends to be much lower, and costs are kept down by the fact that these countries generally require only one, relatively brief trip. Russia, on the other hand, generally requires two trips and an overall "away" time that is fairly long.

We adopted two siblings from Poland and the total cost was 22K (including everything). We adopted independently, i.e. hired a lawyer directly in Poland and not an agency. We could have spent less, that is we took an unnecessary third trip (2 day long!). However, the stay in country for bonding is 2 weeks, it can usually be arranged that one person only stays the whole time.

Ukraine adoptions average about 12K - 14K, the children are CC 14 months & up, but the stay is 3-4 weeks.
