Stressing Out

We found out today that our emom was in the hospital for three days for pre-term labor. She was sent home to be on bedrest. But I really don't think she will comply.

She is in treatment at a methadone clinic as well. We also got a lot of her drug screens and found out that she is using/taking klonopin much more than we thought. At least that is the only drug showing up. Everything else is negative.

She is 30 weeks pregnant. I'm just praying that he is strong and healthy. I know we will have a long withdraw period. Any other things to be prepared for? thanks

Nothing to really add, not familiar with klonopin or its effects. (((hugs))) and try not to 'pre-worry' about things that may or may not come to be. With drug exposed babies it's good to be educated, to do the research...and then to realize that what you end up having to deal with may not be all that similar to what you thought you were prepared for. Each little kiddo is different, although there are usually some general things that go with drug exposures. So hang in there and TRY not to worry. ((((hugs)))

My advice is always the same: no kind or amount of drugs can compare to alcohol in its effect on the fetus. If you know there is a lot of alcohol, that's a big warning sign. But you can rarely know for sure. Therefore, I honestly don't think it's worth stressing about drugs other than alcohol, even though I know it's natural ti worry. I didn't set out to adopt two alcohol-affected kids, but I knew I had to be open to the possibility. And now we're parenting those kids and I wouldn't have it any other way. If I were adopting again, I definitely wouldn't worry about drug exposure in terms of developmental effects, because personally I don't see the point. This is not to trivialize your concerns, babies' withdrawal symptoms or anything else, but it is my opinion. Adoption is a great unknown but each child is endlessly rewarding.
