confirmation from birthmom about alcohol/drug use

We just got an email back from our dd's birthmom. Here is what she said:

"i believe i was smoking pot..
drinking i knew i did a lil bit.. but not that much to my knowledge....
and cigerettes could be a possible thing...
because i wasnt able to quit.."

Of course we thanked her profusely for being honest with us. Just having confirmation of our suspicion feels great. Knowing now how to approach our dd's delay is wonderful. Of course we still have a long road ahead of us.

That is interesting...

Do you have the baby's birthrecords? Did biomom test positive for anything at the time of birth?

I know how scarey it is to wonder what effects the biomom's bad habits had on your adopted child. My son was exposed to cocaine, probably alcohol, and I think pot...he's developmentally on-target now and is actually quite smart- but, I still worry about what may come down-the-road!!

Good luck with your little girl.

My son tested negative at birth for everything; means nothing to me. During the critical part of the the pg. his bmom was doing who knows what. She did test + at delivery for cocaine and denied it yet was open about her drug/alcohol use in the start of the pg. Go figure...
Glad you got your answers!!
