Symptom of withdrawl

The little boy I adopted came with asthma inhailers but I was told he had not used them in 6 months and only to give them when he had an attack. I called the parmacist and they said he was supposed to be having one everyday as a preventer. But he has no symptoms so we booked a doctors appointment to figure out what is going on.

Also I got his medical records from birth on and he was addicted to meth when he was born and had such a severe withdrawl he almost died at 48 hours old. He was put on medication but was wheezing for a few months. The wheezing got better after he was weaned from the drugs and slowly disappeared. Since he has moved i he has not had any wheezing or coughing or asthma attacks.

Could it be possible that his "asthma" was caused by his withdrawal? And does anyone know any test that can be done on a child to find out if he does have asthma. He had a chest x-ray and it came back clear and completely normal.
