Anyone work with more than one agency or facilitator at a time?

I am considering looking in other places to help us as well. We do not have alot of money to spare, but we are prepared to get into some debt if it means we finally get a child. I just didn't know if it's considered unethical or not to work with more than 1 place at a time? Any advice?

Hello,
Congratulations on starting your adoption journey. I hope you have a short wait. We used two agencies at once. We had an agency in our home state (Indiana) and we also signed with an agency in the state I am from (Ohio). As long as you are upfront and honest with both agencies there is no problem with that. Good Luck!

We worked with several agencies. We were just told that we should not allow ourselves to be presented to more than 1 emom at a time. We never had that issues it seemed like each time we were approached no one else was currently looking at the profile. What the agency does not want is for 2 emoms to pick you at the same time, because you will have to reject one of them.

I worked with an agency that worked with several placing agencies. I guess I really just wanted to improve my odds.

I wish you the very best

We had our name and paperwork in with 3 different agencies. Two required an application fee and the third didn't. Wouldn't you know the one we paid no fee to is who matched us with our wonderful birthmom!!

I don't think it hurts to have you name in multiple places, it's what you feel most confident about doing for your situation.

Best of Luck!

We worked with two agencies (one in my home state, one outside) and a facilitator. We were matched with our "home state" agency. They actually encouraged us to "sign up" with other agencies/facilitators since they did not have a lot of instate placements. The trick, though, is finding ones that have no/low upfront fees. Best to you, Karen

I'm glad you asked this. We are working with two agencies and both of them encouraged us to seek other places to improve our chances. So now we are considering ANLC.

We are just starting the process - have our home visit next week and knowing that it's okay to work with more than 1 agency is great news...

We were signed with one agency and two referral services. Both the referral services had no upfront fee, but the agency did. We were placed with our daughter through the agency, and then two days later offered ANOTHER baby girl through one of the referral services. We turned the second one down because the first was already a "done deal" and we didn't figure we could handle two newborns, even if they had allowed us to adopt the second baby.

By "Referral service" I'm assuming you mean an agency that helps with "marketing"(excuse the vulgar term) adoptive couples? Is that the same thing as a facilitator? Do you have referral services you would recommend?

Hi there -- I'm hoping to find more information about referral services and facilitators as well. We're licensed in our state (IL) but would love to work with another service in a neighbor state. If anyone can PM me with information, or even a website that lists such services, I would be so grateful! Thank you :-)
