Independent Adoptions?

Has anyone ever chosen an independent adoption? If so who are you/were you working with? How did you and the birthmom find one another? I am in the beginning stages of considering this process, and I wanted to talk with others who have btdt!
Thanks!
Amy

we went independent

DH and I are getting a baby in 42 days from independ. adoption. I met the emom at my work and she approached me about possibly adopting her baby. This was when she was only 12 weeks pg. I came home and discussed it with DH. About a week before this, I was upset about a different situation related to a surrogate that we had and she had kept the twins we were supposed to get....long story... and DH said "if a baby is meant to come into our life, God will open the door". Well, when I came home with the news that J wanted us to adopt her baby, DH said "that's the door". So we took J and her mom out to dinner, discussed a lot of stuff, I put out my fears of going through this only to have her back out and change her mind, she put out her fears of us not letting us see baby, etc etc etc. We really hit it off, she and her mom have come over for dinner a few times, she has even brought over her baby stuff from her one year old. We are having our homestudy done with Catholic Social Services but they aren't doing any of the actual adoption stuff, our lawyer is. It is all pretty easy really. So we are anxiously awaiting a new little girl we are naming Sarah, in only 42 more nerve racking days!!!!
Good luck with your journey.

Congratulations Melissa! Very exciting.

We are starting the independent process. We are working on a website and an ad and we have our dedicated cell phone and 1-800 number. We hadn't done anything and three situations came our way all of a sudden but they didn't work out (luckily, wasn't long and drawn out). But it gave us hope that this will happen! We have a 20 month old by domestic agency adoption and we thought that would never happen so I'm feeling positive.

I'm pretty nervous about the calls that we may get. We both are friendly but pretty shy and that's a nerve-wracking conversation to have.

Good luck to everyone!

Heart

If you're still looking for answers, I'd encourage you to ask this same question on the General Adoptive Parent Support Board. I know some AP's there successfully adopted independently.
