Economy and status of agencies
Hi Everyone,
My DH and I finished our home study and were listed with our agency last month for a domestic adoption. Are we there yet? Our agency has been around forever and I'm not worried about them, but I've heard that a lot of the smaller agencies are in trouble. I know that the international adoptions are taking a lot longer than they used to. Anyway, I'm wondering how the agencies are doing. Have any of you seen agencies go out of business? Have they been cutting back? Any input would be appreciated. Meghan |

You know.....I haven't seen any go out of business and I keep up with several of them. However, this has been a topic of discussion I've had with other adoptive moms and we're thinking adoptions may have to be conducted differently. Everything from lowering the incredibly ridiculously high fees, birthparent fees, etc....to families only being able to afford to adopt one baby/child because of the greediness of some agencies.
Additionally, some are thinking the economy may force some people to seek out surrogacy which---in some states---is cheaper to conduct than adoptions. (And, in some states, the risks for surrogacy are much less than losing money on an agency adoption situation.) Sincerely, Linny |
