Domestic adoption questions
I was wondering if anyone could help with some questions I have. My wife and I have always wanted to adopt since before we had our own children. We now have a 4 and 3 year old (boys), but the desire is still in our hearts to adopt. So, here are my questions:
1) Are there agencies near Oklahoma that are reputable and allow you to specify gender? Any you would recommend? (We think we'll have to go out of state.) 2) Is that even a possibility in a domestic adoption? 3) Knowing that we have two biological children, is it a much more lengthy process than if we didn't? Thanks! jdr |

I don't know any agencies in Oklahoma, but I can address your other two questions (only from what I've experienced/heard).
Yes, there are agencies that will let you specify the sex of the child you're looking for. From what I understand, you never know what an expectant parent is looking for when making an adoption plan. They might want a child to be an only child to get more attention, or they might want the child to have an already built-in family with other siblings. It all depends on the EBP and what she/he is looking for.

We are in TN so I can't help with your first question but when our two bio son's were 10 and 14 we met our daughter's birthmother through a mutual friend. She wanted a family that had two other children and one where the child she was carrying would be the baby. This worked out perfect for us since we only wanted three children and this would be our last!

I can't help with local agencies (we are in WA), but one of the reasons our birth mom chose us was because we already had a son.
You just never know what they are looking for.

Congrats on your decision to adopt! I'm not in your area, so can't comment on specific agencies. We're using a service that allows us to send out to multiple agengies, and we can be gender specific to a point. Sometimes, the match is so early, gender is unknown. We have seen many cases where the Emom specifies a family with no children or only children who were adopted. But also plenty that don't specify. Plus, if you have 2 boys and are wanting a girl, no doubt she will get PLENTY of special attention being the only girl, KWIM!
