Question Anyone get successful match using web only to search for BMom?

Hello, this is my first post.

We are not using an agency and our lawyer is not currently helping us find a BMom match.

I want to hear from those who have found an independent match with online listing services (such as Parent Profiles) exclusively.

- How long did you wait/advertise online?

- How old were you and your DH at time of match?

- Did you have to screen out any scammers?

- Do you have other children? How old? Bio or adopted?

- Anything else you think is important

We adopted our DS independently and I need to know our chances for doing this again on our own via web only

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can't help you with suggestions but I am doing the same as you with an attorney and she said that she has never done an adoption with birthmom found on internet. She has done 4,650 adooptions over 25 years.

I am actually trying to find places to send our birthmom letters too. Thats difficult. Considering I have spent 20,000 over ten years to agencies that didn't look or lied to us or matched us with birthmom's who took our money and weren't pregnant to be turned down at the hospital (after having spent 6,000.00) we figured looking ourselves couldn't be any worse. At least it's sweat equity and not my hard earned cash going out.

good luck

Adoption Referral Agency

We used an adoption referral agency. We started with an international adoption in July 2007, but that fell through in February 2008. We were going to sign with an agency in PA that a friend of mine used, but decided to try to do it on our own. I'm very organized and proactive so I started searching online for potential birthmothers. I found several sites that advertised birthmother "situations." These were referral agencies that were working with adoption agencies. These situations were almost always considered high risk due to race, social issues, drug/alcohol use, etc. We didn't care about any of those. We were matched on March 13with our birthmother and her due date was April 9. She ended up delivering on March 29 and we brought our son home from the hospital the next day.

I think adoption referral agencies are a great way to go. They DO charge a fee for their services, but the one we went with only charged their fee if the placement when through. I'll give you the name of our agency if you want. We will definitely use her again for our next adoption.

We were very lucky that it happened so quickly. It was actually 9 months to the day from when we signed our original adoption application to our birthmother's due date! Because we weren't concerned about finding that "perfect" Caucasian baby, we didn't wait as long.

I am also interested in the name of the adoption referral service you used. Congrats on being a parent!

We did! We did not use the service you named, but we had our website linked to many others.
- How long did you wait/advertise online?
7 months

- How old were you and your DH at time of match?
36 (me) and 38 (DH)

- Did you have to screen out any scammers?
Oh yes. That was one of the hardest things about independent adoption for us.

- Do you have other children? How old? Bio or adopted?
At that time, no. Now we have another DD whom we used an adoption referral service for.

- Anything else you think is important

You're welcome! Feel free to PM if you have any other questions!

Good Luck!

Stephanie
