My name is Lisa and my DH and I began the application process in early December. We should be officially waiting in February. I have been lurking for a bit so I thought I would come out and say hello.

Nice to meet another fireman's wife!
My DH and I are hoping to adopt domestic and have been active and WAITING with our agency since December 5, 2006. I wish you the best of luck with the "process". Please feel free to PM me if you ever need advice or just want to chat! |

Good luck to you and your DH as you wait...the toughest part! We were approved in January 2006, matched in January 2007, and we're eagerly waiting for the birth in three weeks. My advice is to stay busy, and try not to let people drive you crazy when you're constantly asked "any news yet?"...that was the part that I found most difficult. As exciting as it is, there are definitely highs and lows (at all stages of the game). Just take it day by day and be there for each other for support when needed.

Congrats!
Congratulations on your match DKADOPT! How exciting!
Yes, waiting is so hard. I quit my job when we started the adoption process and will be a stay-at-home mom once our blessing arrives. But, I quickly realized that I was going to go crazy being at home every day until that happened...just too much time to obsess! So, I signed with a temp employment agency. I worked for a florist thru the valentines rush - it was soooo fun!!! And definitely took my mind off things.I see you are from Georgia. We had a potential match with a mother who had given birth to a baby girl in Georgia back in January. She decided she wanted someone in her state, as she wanted an open adoption. I was let down, but know our time will come! The average wait for our agency is 9 months. Were you matched through an agency? I hope that every thing goes smoothly and that you are bringing your baby home soon. Do you know if it's a boy or girl?? |

Thanks! Today we got the official date that our baby boy will be born on March 8th by c-section. We're ecstatic to say the least. We did go through an agency, and for the most part it has been a positive experience. There are always ups and downs, and now everything seems to be falling into place just as it should.
Our agency said we should anticipate a 12-18 month wait, and it took exactly 12 months for us to match. A long time for sure, but we continued with our everyday routines along the way. Earlier today we had phone conferences with both bmom and bgrandmother; we're going with open adoption, and we continue to get more and more comfortable with each other as we talk on the phone. I anticipate that they'll be like extended family to us and to our child in the long run. I've travelled to FL twice to meet with bmom. It can be a little awkward meeting in person, but how exciting as well!
