Diff. between using an agency, a lawyer, or a facilitator?
The research stage is so overwhelming. Every time I think I have a handle on all the info I learn something new. I would love any info anyone might have on domestic adoption and which route they went through for their adoption.
Thanks- Sarah |

I find using an attorney is more personal.

My DH and I used an agency but if I were to adopt again, I would use an attorney due to the multiple problems we had with agency. Most likely, you will have to hire an attorney even if you go with an agency

We are using an attorney after two failed matches with a very "impersonal" agency. We've only been with her for a week so I can't speak to the results yet, but I can certainly say that I feel much more "comforted" by the process. I wish we'd found her to start with!

when you use an attorney do you do your own networking to find a birthmother or do they. What is the difference between an attorney and an agency?

We used a facilitator. The facilitator is contacted by agencies who are looking to match potential birth mothers with potential adoptive families. We would find out a little information on the situation and contact her if we wanted to be presented. At the point we were selected, we then signed on with the agency that the potential birth mother was working with. I don't know how it works when you start with the attorney.

[i] I am also wanting to know how adoption works with just using an attorney. Do you have to locate the birth mother or does the attorney? Also, is it less expensive to go through an attorney and avoid using an agency?

We have been with an agency for 3 months and even thugh we have been ociked twice in that time both fell through. I am thinking of doublin gup and using an attorney as well, though that may just be cost prohibitive. Do attorneys work on a retainer or contongemcy basis, money all up fornt or as you go? Do any of you know how to go about this? What about "finding" your own situations? If we do that it is a lot less expensive adn we can still use the "legal" services of our agency to get it all done but don't have to pay the "match" fee. Any opinions, suggestions?
Thanks- Ellen |
