Red face Need advice re: interstate adoption (IN to OH)

Our interview in IN on Tues went well--we were matched with a 12 year old girl!!!!

If anyone has experience with interstate adoption, specifically IN to OH, I would LOVE to hear from you. The child's caseworker is new to this (her 1st adoption) so we are all walking blind.

The child is eligible for county assistance, including medicaid. However there is concern that IN medicaid will not be accepted in OH. The caseworker is also not sure if we will need to have FBI check done (we have BCI through Ohio). They tell us in OH that it can take up to 6 months to clear a FBI check~is it the same in IN?

Any advice, resources, etc. anyone could give would be welcome!
Thanks in advance!

I have done a newborn domestic adoption, so it's not quite the same thing, but I do have info on some of things you asked.

Our dd was born in IN. She qualified for medicaid at birth for her first 30 days. Once we returned home (FL) her medicaid was not accepted even though she was only two weeks old. I would really look into seeing if OH will accept it or if you can get her either on your insurance or see if she is eligible for OH medicaid.

For our domestic adoption, we had to be fingerprinted and send the fingerprints to the FBI. They were not sent to a FL office of the FBI, but rather one in DC (I think). It took 6 weeks to get clearance, not 6 months, so hopefully that will be the same for you!!!

I hope I was able to help a little!!

Oh, CONGRATS on your match!!!! You must be so very excited

Casey

We also did a newborn domestsic adoption - MI to OH. We had our FBI check done prior to the placement, and it took approximately 8 weeks.

The actual ICPC paperwork took less than a week from when our agency filed with MI to when OH approved us to come home.

Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. Good luck, and congratulations!
