Question Home study question

We haven't started the home study process yet, but does anyone know if they interview or get input from children from a previous marriage, even if they have never lived in your home? My husband has a 17 yr old daughter, and his relationship with his ex, and his daughter, has been up and down. Thanks very much!

Sorry, can't answer your question

but I wanted to respond so that I could "bump it up" for you.

While you are waiting for a specific answer, you may want to do a search on "home study" as I think there is a relatively long (but not overwhelmingly so) thread called "homestudy advice" that spoke to a lot of different issues, and something similar may have come up.

Niether of us had been married before or had other children (so I can't say I am 100% sure about this), but I think the social worker only talks to people that you want her to talk to. When children live in the home, I know that they dometimes interview them, depending on the agency (because I have seen that here and I have friends who have gone through this).

She will certainly want to (probably) talk to your husband in-depth about his relationship with his daughter, but I am not sure if she will want to interview her. Just have your husband be prepared to answer what he would do differently (if he would do anything differently) and/or how he would act to ensure that this would not happen in his relationship with your future child.

If you have several homestudy agencies to choose from, this may be a question you ask them before choosing an agency/social worker.

Good luck,
D.

I don't know specifically, but we have two teenage daughters and they are being interviewed. I would guess yes though because they want to ask her about your husband and things like how he disciplined her and get an idea what type of father he is, that is what they are asking our daughters. Because at some point I would assume he lived with her. But that is just my opinion.
