Helpful comments re: independent adoption and facililtators appreciated

Hi I'm new to the forum and would appreciate any info. that others have regarding independent adoptions and facilitators--including good or bad experiences. We are just starting out researching and are trying to decide on the best path for us.

Please PM me with any comments.

We used a facilitator. We loved her. She only worked with 20 families at a time and had a great placement rate.

Hi,

I did an independent adoption, advertised for the birthmom myself, used an attorney and it went very smoothly. Not sure what you want to know exactly...

Hi,

We did not use a facilitator/networking service/referral service because it's not legal to do so in our home state. If you haven't yet, please check with your attorney to be sure it's OK where you are too.

Some states don't allow the use of a facilitator regardless of where the child is born (if different from home state), some do allow if it's legal in child's birth state.

If it helps, we did not have any problems connecting without the use of a facilitator. Through personal networking we were connected within 4 months of starting our search. Ryan was born 7 months later.
