Question When to contact attorney?

My husband and I are going through our local Lutheran Children and Family Services office for our adoption, but my OB/GYN also has a copy of our profile in case someone comes in that is wanting to place their child for adoption. My OB gave me that name of an attorney that they have been involved with on some adoption before and I'm just wondering when to contact the attorney? Do I contact her now to just let her know that we are trying to adopt and talk to her about it, or should I wait until we are matched with someone? Any info would be great?

Thanks,

Stacy

I would contact them now. They could be another valuable resource for finding a potential birthmom and also can give you an idea of cost/process/laws in your state etc... Often they will give you an initial consult for free - but even if you do have to pay it's worth it to know you have someone who will be able to work quickly when you get that call.

Good Luck

I would contact now, as well as talk to at least two other attorneys with experience in domestic adoption. You'll want to have a relationship established now in case a situation comes up abruptly - i.e. pbparents in labor, born baby, etc.

Depending on your state's laws, they may also be able to help networking & searching.
