Although birth order is not my major area of research -- language is -- I have done some research on birth order. I noticed an Adlerian posting on this site. I reported the results of some of my experiments at the last North American Society for Adlerian Psychology meeting.

Although the effect of birth order on personality is a popular concept, it's been very hard to find experimentally. The successful experiments I know of have found a relationship between birth order and job choice. Experiments that have tried to find a relationship between birth order and personality per se have mostly failed, to my knowledge.

I have been finding an effect of birth order on an indirect measure of personality, but the effect is weak. I am actually running a follow-up experiment on the Web, which you can participate in if you like:
