ADHD and mood disorders

Our oldest daughter was adopted as a newborn. Form the day she started to crawl (early) she was on the GO. Eventually she was diagnosed as ADHD and then this last year and a half the dr. added mood disorders...probably bipolar.

I have heard that "parenting ain't for wimps" no kidding! About the time that we figure out what makes this child tick, she changes tactics and is off on another tangent. Being very talented musically and quite dramatic adds to the challenge.

What have you found as a way of challenging and redirecting your high needs child? I love to hear new ideas!

ADHD/Mood Disorder

DDJ:

Boy, can I relate! Have you read "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka? Also, "Parenting Your Strong-Willed Child" by Nicholas Long?

We've taken some ideas from both books to use with our very active and very unpredictable son.

I'd be interested to hear what treatments you are trying and how they are working. Also, how do you take care of yourselves amidst all the chaos?

i have an add child. she is amost 12
she has always been a handful but i wouldnt label her
hgih needs...
your daughter wil need special ed and eventually get out
try horse back riding , soccer..really helps them focus ..

i would check your medicine
it may not be the right one
and she will be moody all girls are ..it never stops
it causes headaches...watch for that.

i would get second opinions and get her tested to special
ed ...

my girl is off the medicine now
she is forgetful and moody but she is doing well
will be out of special ed within a year

good luck...
p.s.
dont expect her to clean a room
i am add as well
its so overwhelming

start small llike...ok lets pick up the crayons

ok lets pick up the dolls

you have to break everything down
and this applys to everything

good luck
