After adopting
Hello, I dont know if Im in the right place or not but I would like to ask the doctor a question. I adopted a child almost 4 yrs ago and ever since I did, I cant seem to hold down a job, take very good care of my other 2 kids, I cant sleep at night, I have anxiety like crazy and Im wondering if even after so long that it has been, is this normal to feel the way I feel? Ive never been to a doctor to try and cope with the things that Im going through because I dont think that all doctors are trained to deal with specific things like this. Are there doctors out there that are trained to deal with issues of adoption and if so, where do I find them in my area? I live in Salt Lake City, Ut. I feel very lost at times, sometimes worse then other times, but I do know now that my life will never be the same as it was before I had my last child. Help, I need answers. Snowbunny95

usually the agency that you would have placed with will provide free counseling. Any utah agency will be able to refer you to therapist that specialize in adoption. Call all adoption agency's in you area and just ask. And keep coming back to these boards....They can really help....hearing other people's stories.
Good Luck! and let us know what you find....your story may help another!

Hi: I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. If you can find a GOOD therapist (either a licensed clinical social worker or a psychologist) without specific adoption experience that is more important than finding someone who is just okay (or even bad) but has experience with adoptions. Since you're having significant problems with anxiety, I'd suggest a psychologist over a social worker.
Best wishes...
