Lifebooks

Hi -
My brother in-law & his wife are waiting to adopt, and they have talked to me about starting a Life book. I got very excited because I love to scrapbook and I told them that I'd love to help them and they can use any of my supplies. Well, this was about 6 months ago, and I really thought that I'd be a Aunt by now and busy helping give ideas & advice on the lifebook. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out that way. They have had to go back and re-do their bio and nothing more has been mentioned about the lifebook. Now that the holidays are rolling around, I was thinking about purchasing scrapbooking supplies as their gift. Is this appropriate? I've read that starting the Lifebook now, while in the expecting period, can be helpful to the expecting parents, as well as for the child, once he/she gets here! But, I don't want to step over the lines, especially at the holidays.

That can be somewhat of a tricky situation. Probably best to feel them out how things are going before you go ahead and create the gift of scrapbooking supplies.

Good luck!

Would Wait

Personally, I would wait unless they hint or mention that they might want the supplies. I know that everyone has a different opinion on this, but I did not do a lifebook during our adoption journey! There were so many ups and downs before our special child was here. I want her to know how special she is---and not be confused by all the failed attempts--including our first angel that died during birth. I have scrapbooked all of Madison's life from the time we met her in the hospital!
