Question Digital vs. Paper

I have seen so many folks doing digital scrapbooking. I myself do paper and have never tried digital. Why would you choose digital over paper?

Thanks

I do both! I much prefer paper- there are so many embellishments, borders, designs. I think I keep Michaels in business. I truly love it!!! But it takes (me) a long time.

I can scrapbook on my pc quickly and easily. I do not like the outcome nearly as much so I tend to do it for smaller projects- like a gift for grandma.

All my ongoing projects are on paper- Hanna's scrapbook, the one of dh & me....

I'm a digital scrapbooker. I like how quickly I can make changes and revisions and there's so many more options. Although, I like to do graphic design, so that's probably why I think it's easier. I like all the special effects I can do to and with my photos on the computer and the color correcting and the graphics, fonts, and art available. It makes it a lot less expensive for me than buying all the scrapbooking equipment.

Hi,
I'm new here and I'm a digital scrapbooker (relatively new one).

I like the end product of paper scrapbooking and the social aspect of classes and groups etc. But I find myself completely unable to do paper scrapbooking. I get overwhelmed and I get obsessed with perfection (sounds silly, I know).

So, digital works the best for me. It allows me to try out different elements, layouts & designs and play around. So, I can change a color, font, shape, texture, and positioning with one click.

I also like the affordability of it as a hobby. I have about 30 page kits which were all free for downloads. I choose to print my pages at Walmart for 1.56 per page (which is really nice because you can print additional copies for grandparents etc).

Lastly, I like the ease of set up and clean up. If I get an hour to spare during my daughter's nap--I can totally get a page done.

The 3 drawbacks to digital that I see. Is that it's pretty difficult to get a 12 x12 layout without a very specialized printer or paying a lot for "poster sized print". I do regret there isn't a social/get together component to digital. And sometimes it's hard to wait to pick up the print when you are done.

Ultimately, I'm just happy I found a medium I can use to get my memories in a book and preserved.

Take care,

I'm new to digital but I LOVE it!!! I chose it for the ease of reproduction. I wanted to do a really classy profile scrapbook to be presented to pbmom's and found out I would need multiple copies and that pretty much ruled out paper for me. I am having a BLAST doing the digital kind.

I'd paste some of mine here, but they're WAY too big - havem't quite figured out the sizing yet!

Hi,

Perhaps another drawback or plus to digital is the ability to go back and change things. I was sick for an afternoon and spent my time changes things. So my pages have evolved to this.

Very nice, Melissa! I sympathize - I'm a perfectionist when it comes to crafts too and I have changed our pages for our adoption profile SEVERAL times now!!! I'm just gald I was smart enough to get started early, because when our homestudy is approved in a month or so, I want to be done with the darn thing!

Hi Shay,

Of course you can use the saying/poem. It's a very popular one in the Chinese Adoption community.

Take care,

Shay - I'll work on getting them posted! I'm dying to show them off. My only concern on them now is that they're VERY colorful and I'm hoping they don't overwhelm a pbm. I'll try tonight to get them on the thread...

Melissa - Those pages are AWESOME

My take on Digital VS Paper

Digital - No 'waste' in the production process! I can't tell you the number of times I have been afraid to tear/cut that piece of paper because I know how much I paid for it

Perfect matching - I have carried pictures to conventions trying to match that perfect color with no luck - With Digital I click the buttons - that's it

Downsides
I definitely have the 'social' aspect with paper, and it is quite taboo to mention digital in many paper 'circles'

The printing - I love 12x12 but it just isn't cost effective to print in that size. So I try and keep my digital layouts to 8x10 or 8x8
