Create Memories and Document them! Please share with us
This post has been running through my head all day as I drove around for work/ errands. Initially I was thinking that it really only applied to older child adoption, but it really applies to ALL of us birth, adoption, etc
As we approach the holiday season we each take our own special ways to make our new family traditions and to continue our favorite traditions from years gone by. Take time to document, some of the things that we don't think of as 'special' but really are: Family receipes and tradition of preparation, eating and sharing Holiday ornaments/decorations - many families give the child a new ornament each year. Take pictures of the ornaments, document why that was chosen and what year. Relgious services/ceremonies What services does your family attend, pagents that the children (and adults) are in. Gift opening/wrapping Charity Work/Caroling etc etc etc. . . Documentation doesn't have to be 'fancy' If you are the 'digital' kind of person you can do it all in a basic word processing program If you are a non crafty, non digital person get a basic album that has areas to write on, and fill in the information. And if you are crafty - have fun with it. Visit your local craft store and be creative. A group of my local scrapbook friends are creating speciality albums for things like ornaments and are having crops to share and document together. Remember documenting needs to go the whole year through. But if you break it down into pieces like specific holidays and events you will find yourself with smaller tasks that can be accomplished much quicker. To help get the ball rolling - Please share one of your family holiday traditions. If you have already documented them I would love to hear how you chose to do it! Happy Holidays! Diane
