unsure
to make a long story short, i wanted to know is adoption final. i might let my mom adopt my kids because of some issues but im was told that i have a year after it went through if i decided to change my mind. what if she wants to give them back after a year, how does that work. any information would be greatly appreciated.

adoption is a permanent legal option. once finalization occurs (you go to court and the judge grants the adoption), you would legally no longer be the parent to your children, and the time to change your mind would have passed.
if you feel like you need short term help and would be ready to parent your children again in a year, you may want to research other options. |

You could consider giving your mom temporary guardianship of your kids for a certain period of time if you are unsure of your decision at this point. That might allow you to retain your parental rights while granting her the ability to get medical care, make educational decisions, etc on your behalf.

I would look at guardianship. I have a friend who has that with her daughter now. Her daughter became pregnant young, married, and is now divorced and the dad gave up all his rights. Her daughter went to court and asked that my friend be given a type of joint custody with her so while the daughter was working, or at school etc... her Mom could make these decisions and help provide health care etc.. Of course, this was all very amicable. They live in the same house etc... and my friend has no intention of trying to permanently parent. She's just trying to help both of them get the best start possible.
Maybe something along those lines would work if you have a good relationship with your Mom? |

i was misinformed and now my mom has already went to court but it hasn't been finalized yet cuz they are waiting for someone to come to the home first. i believe my mom tricked me. im in a long term drug rehab trying to get my life together and i don't know what to do now. im scared i wont get my kids my back now.
