Ellipses What to do if you can't log in after the MAJOR UPGRADE next week

This is my ‘preemptive’ post on what to do next week when we launch our new forums and you’re unable to log in.

Everyone should have plenty of time to read this and take notes on what to do – I ask that all of our Moderators please make sure all of our forums know that this thread exists.

Please post questions, if you have them – I will do my best to answer!

If after we launch next week, you find that you can’t login, clearing Cookies/Cache will fix the problem – if you don’t know how to do that, the steps are outlined below:

Internet Explorer
Open a Browser
At the top, click Tools, then select Internet Options
On the Internet Options screen – delete Cookies, Files and Clear History.
Close all Internet Explorer browsers
Open a new Internet Explorer Browser and navigate over to forums.adoption.com and try to sign in.

FireFox
Open a browser
At the top, click Tools, then select Clear Private Data
Checkmark all of the options there except “Saved Passwords”
Click Clear Private Data
Then close all open FireFox browsers
Open a new FireFox browser and navigate over to forums.adoption.com and try to sign in.

Actually, for Firefox you have to click on "Tools," then "Options" and then choose "Privacy" to get to the screen you're talking about.

Maybe we've got two different versions of FF - the most current version (which I use) does not require the extra step - you simple go to tools then "Clear Private Data" and you're done.

Safari

To clear 'cookies' on Safari, open browser, click (in upper L corner):
Safari > Preferences > Security > Show cookies > Remove All > Done

Question: Can I just clear (highlight/delete) the 'adoption.com' cookies, rather than all my cookies?

Does the upgrade require that 'history' be cleared also?

You should be able to just remove the Adoption.com Cookie(s) but I can't promise it will work.

Yes, you will need to clear your history as well - to remove any/all traces of the site before the upgrade.

So, are all our posts, etc. going to disappear with this upgrade?

Oh.. well cant you just delete a.com from your history the same way as the cookie?

With the clear private data thing... well I think that it just isnt clear what "private data" is.

I hate clearing all cookies and offline content, too. Deletes the favicons... then you have to readd them to get them back.

For those who know how to delete selectively, you’re welcome to give it a try – the instructions above were for those who do not know how to even delete cookies/history – we can’t go through and explain how to selectively delete for each member, sorry

Ok, I am totally clueless when it comes to cookies. Does this mean my entire "favorites" list will be deleted?!?! It's HUGE! Ugh!
