Breastfeeding adopted newborn babies

Hello. I am new to this adoption support site. My husband and I are in the process of going through an open adoption with a local agency in the Pacific Northwest. I have a question for adoptive and birth moms alike....

For birthmoms...How would you feel about an adoptive mother choosing to breastfeed? I would like to consider this because we have a 9 year old biological son and I breastfed him for
six months. Breastfeeding was a wonderful way to bond with him as well as to provide him the best health possible by passing on my healthy immunological system. As a result, he
is a very healthy and happy boy.

For adoptive moms...Have any of you breastfed your adoptive
babies? How did it go? Etc., etc.

Sincerely,

Lani

For health and love ...

I have two adoptive mothers as friends, and both of them are alos considering nursing their adopted child. I'm not sure how I feel about it ... I'm a little biased I"m afraid!

So this is the best response I can give you ...

You do what is in your heart to do. As long as the birth mother doesn't protest, or have it in her agreement that she does not want you to ... then you should do what you feel best. I hope that other adoptive mothers here will respond to this, as I do not know enough about it.

In love and Prayer!

I am also planning to nurse my adopted baby!

I already have the Supplemental Nursing system( a bottle that hangs from the mothers neck that has two tubes which are taped to the mothers breast and holds formula, the sucking action helps stimulate milk production). I feel very strongly about doing this regardless of what others think. I know somepeople think its wrong because you didnt give birth to the child to be able to nurse. But this is one thing I can still do and I intend on providng my child the best I can.
