We're going to Cedar Point in Ohio...We thought maybe we'd stay for 2 nights at one of the hotels, and that way we can do the park, maybe the water park, and then just hang at the hotel...
My DH is NOT a roller coaster person, so he is not 100% thrilled with WHERE we are going, but he's a good sport, so he shouldn't give me too many problems, haha. We were going to do it this summer, but thought we'd wait until next year for the kids to be a bit older, and maybe more adventurous. |

Hmm. It's probably been over 20 years since we took our kids there. How time flies! I used to love roller coasters, but a couple years ago I got deathly sick so I've been avoiding them ever since! Love - it sounds like it could be a lot of fun, even if its not for DH!

Kathy, It's been a while since I've been there too, and I don't know if I still have the stomach for rollercoasters, but I'll give it a shot!
As for DH, he'll be responsible for the backpacks/drinks...He'll also be in charge of spending outrageous amounts of money (along with C's boyfriend) trying to win substandard stuffed animals. This is very exciting for us...We've never done a vacation type thing with any of our kids' firstparents... We have been invited to stay with D and her family in Naples for a couple of weeks, and although we'd love to take them up on it, airfare alone will cost about $5000 for the 4 of us for the time of year we'd be able to go. Who knows...Where there's a will, there's a way, right? |

Set up fare watches on the various sites. (I'm assuming Naples, FL??) Sometimes you can get really good prices, if you are watching.

No - actually Naples, Italy. Her husband is in the Navy and they are stationed there for another 3 years... Since it's so far away, we won't be seeing them more than once every 2 years, if that... |

Ah, my husband and I flew over when my brother was stationed there. (I did exactly what I said to you.) My advice is the same... keep watching for sales! It's a marvelous opportunity for all of you if you can find a way to swing it. What is your closest airport?

Detroit Metro is the nearest (DTW).
D was telling us to book a flight when it comes up really cheap (usually around October)...she said buy the insurance and then cancel our flight and hold onto the tix until we're ready to fly. I thought you had to have an emergency to cancel, though...and I think they'd still make us pay the difference, right? I'll have to try to find one of the fare watches. D just had another baby (she has a son who's almost 3 and now a new baby girl) and we'd really love to be able to see them. Plus, she's taken the tours to Rome, Capri, etc. and really wants to be able to show us around, which would be really nice for all of us. Plus, I mean seriously - to be able to do this for AJ (and JD) would be incredible. A bit OT ~ like I said, D just had a baby. She looks EXACTLY like AJ when he was born. When his brother was born, it didn't really have much of an effect on me...I mean, he was a cute baby who happened to be my son's brother. He also had extreme medical problems which kind of took precedence over everything else...He was born with his organs on the outside of his body (I'm probably mucking that up, but that's the gist of it) and it was very serious and very scary. He's absolutely fine now, fortunately...but the only similarity he has to AJ is their feet. LOL! They have the exact same feet, and nothing more... Fast forward 3 years, I pop open my FB and there they are...pics of a baby who look just like AJ. I started to cry. I have so many mixed feelings... Feelings of sadness because I "miss" my baby, who is now turning 8...Feelings of sadness that he's got this identical being out there that he will not have the opportunity to know on a personal level because of distance and circumstance...Feelings of sadness that he now has a sister, but he'll never have a sister that he lives with on a daily basis. I mean, he's got JD, and each of his firstparents have a son as well, so it's like, "ok - he has 3 brothers..." but the sister thing is different somehow (Does that make sense or is it completely selfish?) And then I'm thinking, well, if I'm having these feelings, what kind of feelings are D having right now? This stuff is not for the faint of heart. (Holy smokes ~ could this have been any longer? lol) |

I'm sure it could have been longer if you had tried, LOL.
We flew into Rome and spent the day "seeing Rome." It was a good day, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it after the long flight! Just keep watching the prices. Sometimes you can purchase them pretty far in advance when they are on sale. How are you set for passports? I have some great memories.

Saturday I had a visit with my son and his parents--he's going to be walking any day, it's so exciting. I have a question for the other bmoms in the thread: do you get sick after visits? I'm noticing that I always do, and while I assume that it's stress (this time it was like the worst hangover ever), I wonder how common it is.

TG - just send your resume and personal references...lol...never mind ~ just come!
I'm sure you can handle 8, 6, and 3 year old boys, plus 1 tiny little baby girl, lol...As for Naples, D said it's very chaotic on the streets, but she loves it (although she is quite homesick right about now). Kathy, we thought we'd go for about 2 weeks and maybe do Rome for a few days in the middle. The problem is, we want to stay in a hotel in Naples, but D wants us to stay with her...She feels it will be an inconvenience for us to stay off base, and is pretty against it. But I think 4 adults and 4 children in one tiny base house for 2 weeks could get...tricky. We'll see though...like I said, it's all kind of a pipe dream and we have to make sure the money is there. My DH's building is shutting down, and he is taking a position change starting next Monday, so we're embarking on the "unknown" right now. SUSIE, I can't really answer on a personal level, but I remember a couple of times when D told me that she had a hard time driving home after seeing AJ because she would be crying so hard...C was the same way. |
