ROFL Oh, my! But seriously, wouldn’t you have to be to eat that! When I was a kid, my mom would serve spaghetti with cut-up bananas on top instead of grated cheese. I now give it to my girls and they LOVE it. A couple of days ago, I made spaghetti, but didn’t have bananas, so my DD1 says: “Mommy, but we have mangoes!” Yep, we had spaghetti with cut-up mangoes on top. hmm -new tradition?? When I was doing foster parenting, whenever I was placed with a new child, the first place I would take them to would be MickeyD’s for French Fries dipped in soft served ice cream. - You know, it was a real icebreaker. We have a Roscoe’s (chicken & waffles) in town, whenever I drive by there, there’s always a line to get in. What's the deal with that?- I guess I’ve missing something. I’m just gonna have to give it a try one of these days. Anybody wanna come?

I live in Texas BUT if gas weren't so high I would have driven to California and back daily during the past 3 months to eat Roscoe's chicken and waffles! During my 4th month of pregnancy d/h and I flew to Calif. for a business trip and some R and R before the baby came. We were sight seeing and saw the Roscoe's sign and stopped in. It was the best greasy spoon, loud, smoky, dive I've ever eaten in and I've been in a lot. We went back for the next 3 days before leaving and I have considered calling UPS to see if they can deliver hot food every day since then. OMG the aroma from the sidewalk is magical in itself! I would have considered naming the kid Roscoe if they'd agree to a free lifetime supply for me. Its the Barter System.
OK...now the good stuff from home>>> Popcorn w/vinegar. You just gotta try it to love it; I learned this in college. Another dorm favorite; Ramien noodles w/bacon bits, banana peppers and Italian dressing. Man oh man, grab a Pepsi and that's a full meal and it was under a buck too. (1990). Smothered chicken gizzard's drowned in ketchup! My Great Granny taught me this, her dentures didn't fit and she smothered everything to make it soft, the ketchup was my idea. TracyOh, I almost forgot>>>drizzle unbaked cake batter over strawberries and eat away. Don't ask...just enjoy T

Pickled Chicken Gizzards
Tracy, yum! I love popcorn with malt vinegar ~ learned about it in my college days. There was a bar across the street from the university where all the students and profs hung out together. They served baskets of free popcorn all day and night!
![]() Your great-grannie's chicken gizzards story reminded me of my grandmother's love for chicken gizzards. She used to pickle them, and they were the most mouth-watering delight! I loved them. YUM!!! PS: I've always wanted to write a book about my grandmother and early Texas history. I would title it "Gizzards and Gumption". ![]()

Dang it! My parents coulda saved a fortune had I gone to a school with a free popcorn bar nearby. All our local pub offered was free salted beer nuts and I hate those. My Great Granny and Pa-Pa lived in Crockett, Tx. and she had this huge ranch/farm place that was over run with chickens and pigs. I can never remember visiting her and not eating chicken gizzards, smothered of course. My kids won't even discuss gizzards they certainly wouldn't dream of eating them. During my pregnancy recently my iron was very low until I started smothering chicken liver and gizzards every other day. The book sounds like a great title; go ahead and I'll have a couple of stories to contribute. You made my day. Tracy

Okay, I'm in need of some major education here. What exactly do they serve? Is it like having breakfast and lunch/dinner at the same time. Tazer said: It was the best greasy spoon, loud, smoky, dive I've ever eaten in and I've been in a lot. Does that mean that is not suitable to kids? TGmom - If you're in So CA we should plan a forum get-together at a Roscoes. (insert pigging out smiley here)

Okay. Now I am getting hungry!!!
There is a rest. just up the road from me that has fried pickles. A couple of girls from work went and tried them. One liked them, the other didn't.

I hate pickles. My son loves them. So on vacation last year, we ate at a Quaker Steak & Lube, I ordered the fried pickles. He didn't like them at all. I brought them home with us for a friend of mine, she didn't like them either.
Oh, MickyD's fries and vanilla ice cream is the best!! |

I guess I am just not that experimental with my food...however I do LOVE making elbow macaroni, then drain it toss it back in the pan with a bit of butter and a can of Campbell's tomato juice. It is yummy and the kids always seem to love it!

I take two slices of plain white bread, peel off the crust, smush the bread into a little patty and dip it in ketchup. Bread N' Ketchup, been a fave since I was little. I also like potato chips or saltine crackers dipped in mustard.
