Some of you know I am very involved in Girl Scouts and this weekend we are starting our kick off. All of this activity has me thinking....
Were you ever a Girl Scout? Or a Boy Scout? How long were you involved? What is your favorite memory??? Okay, I'll start... I was a Brownie for 3 years and a Jr. Girl Scout for 3 years. I was upset when my troop disbanded and there wasn't a Cadet Troop for me to transfer to. So I'm making up for it now My favorite memory was making the Buddie Burners out of the used punch cans and making the "fire" out of a large tuna can. We had a cookout at our Leader's House where we made Hamburgers in her back yard and cooked S'mores over her charcoal grill. We had to sleep under the stars that night so we could earn our badge. I'm not sure how many of us burned ourselves on our burners but I do remember having a blast.

Wow, buddy burners just brought back many memories for me.
I was a Girl Scout from 3 years of Brownies, Juniors, Cadets and Seniors. Some of my memories are going to day camp, then as I got older working the day camps. We also had a friend of the troop who was one of the oldest Girl Scouts. (she knew the founder, it was cool). Going to the week long camps every year, Stevens Ranch ruled, BTW. We were lucky enough to be able to meet at one of the Girl Scout properties so we always camped out there, it was the same place day camp was held at every year. I was given my first taste of "goatman" and snipe hunting. I was able to complete every thing except for my Gold Award (the highest one) I was one project short of completing it before I had to leave. ![]()

I was a brownie and a junior but then I moved and lost interest. My grandmother was involved with it on a state level here in Mass.
My favorite memory was when we made buddies from other troops and I met this one girl and we are still talking to each other 25 years later!!! (atleast I think it is 25, it could be a few years more)

Hmm. I only got two years of brownies because when we lived in Tucson they didn't have enough leaders. I remember we did some neat stuff when I was in 3rd grade: we were on one of those kid's shows in the audience; we visited the San Xavier mission. I remained in scouts for 35+ years. I was a jr, cadette and Sr. scout. (I was a First Class Scout - that was before they created the gold and silver awards.) I've worked with Brownies through Seniors as an adult.
I remember when Girl Scout cookies were $.45 a box. I also remember those buddy burners and frying an egg in a paper bag. I did a lot of backpacking as a cadette. (The last time I went I couldn't walk by the end of the three days let alone carry my pack over the mountain! That was about 12 years ago.) I remember in junior high I spent 2 weeks at girl scout camp hiking and gained 5 pounds. This just brought back a lot of memories... but I'll spare you all. LOL

I was a Brownie, went through Juniors and Cadets. Favorite memory was going on a trip to Santa Fe with our troop, one of whom is now a movie star. (Seriously.)

Currently I am a Leader for a Brownie Troop, at the end of the year we will be bridging...exciting year!!
Turns out I couldn't get enough so this year will be my first year on our Service Unit Team and I'm a New Leader Big Sis. My Co-Leader was never in Girl Scouts so she loving the activities we are doing!! LOL!!

Since I'm in Canada we don't have Girl Scouts, but we do have Girl Guides. I have been a member now for 21 years. I did 12 years as a girl and now 9 years as a leader. I just got back from taking 8 girls to a large camp with over 300 participants.
I'd say one of my favorite memory of being a Girl Guide was when I was 13 and had the opportunity to represent my province at an international camp for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. There were over 3000 participants there from all around the world. ![]()

Nope. My mom didn't want to sew on the patches. I swear!! LOL
It made me so mad at the time, but I'm not sure it would have been my cup o tea. Only because we were constantly running around doing every sport and activity....I would have been too busy!

I joined the last year of Juniors, and went through Cadettes and some of Seniors... my troop disbanded about my junior year of high school and I couldn't find another I wanted to join. I got my Silver award and knew what I would have done for my Gold if my troop had stayed together.
My favorite memory was going to Texas on a Wider Opportunity. I applied for like, 3 years before I actually got to go to one, and the one I was chosen for was something like my 3rd choice, but I still had a great time! I met a lot of people there and actually one of my best friends. She was from New Jersey and now lives in Colorado but we have kept in touch for the 12 years since then.
