Birthday Gifts From Birthparents
We have discussed what to send a birthparent for a childs first birthday, so I thought we could discuss what as adoptive parents you would like for your child to receive as a first birthday gift from their birthparents?
As they get older it becomes easier as they enjoy toys and such, but for first birthdays I think something somewhat personal would be nice, something they could keep forever ![]() Discuss

Do kids really need more toys? For many of us parents we already have a million laying all around our homes that they soon outgrow or brake or just don't play with. I would much rather my child get things that will last them a lifetime. Maybe pictures, stories, anything and everything relating to their birth families. Maybe a poem or letter written byt their birthmother. Maybe a special necklace/bracelete keepsake. Maybe an autobiography expliaing their birthmom's life, where they were born specail memories they had growing up. Maybe some baby pictures of themselves at that same age?
Toys/clothes are fun and all but something homemade or handwritten would be much more treasured and could stay with the child forever.

Of course children always need more toys.
I got her an outfit and a toy for her first birthday. Her second birthday was some Dora stuff that ended up being her favorite present... which warmed my heart. She even took it to bed with her. ![]() My presents have always been graciously received. I all ready wrote letters and poems. I'm poem-ed out.

ROFL!!!!!
Funny but true. The emotional roller caoster gets old at times. I think I would prefer for dd bfamily to get her something that means something to them. In otherwords if it is a toy great if it is a poem great. But the meaning behind it is the important part. Just so I can be able to explain the meaning in her lifebook. The fact that they will be there and give her anything is what is important. Wow that sounds confusing but it makes sense to me. |

Exactly; the outfit I got her for her first birthday was like something I would have worn (but age appropriate, obviously); a flowy hippie type shirt and a pair of courduroy pants.
She was a mini-me if only for a day. ![]()
