My husband and I are in the process of becoming Foster-Adopt parents through the Columbia, SC DSS. We have attended both classes, turned in all our paperwork, and are scheduled to have our fire inspection Feb.5, 2007.
We still have our DHEC inspection and homestudy to go. We have no children yet. We are hoping to foster, then adopt an infant-toddler, any race, boy OR girl. We are very excited. We have been married for 9 years. We thought about fertility treatments for awhile, but decided we would rather adopt. Just wanted to get this thread started and see if anyone else is around the area.

Our homestudy was turned in about 2 weeks ago. We are just waiting for the official approval letter. We are hoping to foster-adopt an infant-3year old, any race, either gender. We have no other children but do have 2 dogs that are treated better than some children. Hoping to meet others in the area with similar situations, or just anyone with advice, or with a story to share.

Social workker called today and said we've been approved!!! Woo Hoo! Now the wait begins...

No, we still have not been matched. April will be 1 year that we have been waiting. We are now updating our approval (yearly fire inspection). It is frustrating.

my advice is DON'T wait for them to call you, call your caseworker every week to make sure she is looking for you. Have you been on the website adoptuskids.org?there are LOTS of waiting children. Our caseworkers are so overworked that they can use our help! good luck~

We have been foster parents now for almost 9 weeks. He is a 2 year old little boy. He will likely be placed with relatives but we are enjoying him while we can. Our goal is adoption, although it may not be this little one. I know it will be hard if he does go, we have allowed ourselves to fall in love already.
