New here!

Hi, I wanted to introduce myself. I checked this forum every once in a while with our last Colombian adoption, but this time I find myself out here a lot, because we'll be waiting awhile!!
We have a 4-year old bio son, and a 2-year old daughter adopted from Colombia. We are starting another process, and are waiting for CIS approval to send our dossier, then the wait begins. This time we are doing a special needs adoption.

So, I'll look forward to chatting with you all!!
Kerry

Hi Kerry! Welcome to the group! We just got back from Colombia with our daughter 6 weeks ago. What is the wait time for a special needs child? Hopefully you'll get a referral very soon! Good luck with your process.

Hi Kerry,

Yes, I find myself here a lot, too! It will be interesting to see what the wait times are for special needs children. Maybe you won't be waiting as long as you think! Are your children excited to be adding to your family again or do they not know yet? Congratulations!

Megan

Thanks for the welcome! The wait time right now is one year from approval by ICBF, and we are probably several months away from approval. Our adoption is also considered ''mild disabilities'', so that may make the wait time longer than others.

Our kids are excited! Our son says he wants 68 brothers and sisters, but I think we'll stop before we need two vehicles anyway....

How does the special needs adoption work from Colombia? What would "mild disabilities" include?

I think the most common 'mild disability' is cleft lip/palate. Other than that, most of the conditions are 'correctable'. hope this helps!
