Question Help! Concerns about moving forward

Hello - I'm new here. My husband and I live in Minnesota and have signed up with Lutheran Social Services here in the Twin Cities.

I just read on another post that it is considered offensive to ask for a girl when adopting from Columbia.

My husband and I are at the very beginning stages - we love Columbia, love the program LSS has - love the age of the babies - and the wait time. But - we do want to request a girl. We are also considering China for this reason.

Does anybody know if the above is true? Is it considered offensive to request a girl? This could change our whole plan!

Thanks -

Karla

Help! Concerns about moving forward

We are nearing the end of our paperchasing (just waiting on the I-171H from BCIS). We have two biological sons & are requesting two sisters from Colombia.

I haven't heard anything at all about it being considered offensive to ask for a specific gender. It might increase your wait time, but I don't think it would be offensive.

Now...I have heard that asking for a specific skin color (light-skinned or caucasian looking) would probably offend the folks and that makes total sense to me! If you are looking at adopting from a Latin American country, you definitely need to have come to grips with the whole skin tone, eye & hair color issue (imho).

I'd encourage you to move forward! So far this has been a tremendous experience for us. We are anxiously awaiting the last document so our dossier can be sent down!

God bless,
Stacie

We requested two girls when we adopted from Colombia. It was not considered offensive.
