Has anyone started a support group?

AFAIK, there isn't one in our town for adoptive families. (I'm double checking though.) I've been toying with the idea of gaging interest and starting one through our church.

But how in the world do I start up something like that? What goes on at meetings? I'm most certainly NOT an expert, but I feel like I have a lot of resources (mostly links) to share with people who are interested.

Help!

hi. i am also interested in starting a support group for adoptive families. there are many families in my church who are either in the process or who have adopted already. in my mom's church, which is huge, they have an adoption network, but i've never been to it because it's far from where i live. but she's told me about it.

i've been thinking about how to start one up. this is the best i could come up with. first finding a place/time to meet, getting the blessing from the pastor, then making flyers and spre
ading the word around to friends. i was going to open the group to people outside the church too, and hang flyers at the local grocery store, dunkin donuts, community center, etc. then just show up at the meeting and hope people come. i figure it might be a slow start but if i keep showing up, maybe others wil too.

keep us posted if you do start one and how it goes. i'd be interested in hearing about it. good luck to you. i might think about making my way down to my mom's church adoption group, just to see what it's like.
