Hi
I am new here. This is my first post. My husband and I are in the process of local adoption in Australia. We have almost finished our SW visits all going well they will it be completed by next week. Our sw will then write up our report and submit so we should be on the list at the end of may early june. Here in australia it is difficult to get a local placement but we feel that this is where God has led us. Two years ago God promised that we will have a child and this is the two year mark so I am trying to wait patiently on God to get us through to the list and then wait for our precious child to become a part of our family. Hope you have a great day. Chick-a-dee |

I'm curious... how does the adoption process work in Australia? What's the typical wait? Are they open adoptions? Best wishes to you! Shari |

Thank you for your very warm welcome. From what I understand the process in Australia has quite a few differences.
We first have to attend an information session then we have to attend 2 all day education groups. Once that is done we are then able to submit our application to our local region. From there we wait to be allocated a SW and once that is done we then have about 6 visits with them that are about 3 hours long. Very intense. Once we have finished our visits the sw write a report and we go before a panel and they review our file and decide to say yes or no. Once we are approved we then become a part of a central data base that is state wide and we wait to be chosen. Here in Australia babies are anywhere from 6 weeks old and above they are placed with a foster family until they are placed. Our babies mother is involved with the decision and decides what type of family she wishes for her child. It is open adoption here which means we will have visits up to 4 times a year. We could wait a couple of months to be allocated up to years. In Victoria where we are there are about 15-20 babies available a year. But God has promised that we will have our baby this year so we will be only waiting months just not sure how many months hopefully not too many. Thanks for being interested in our process and journey. It is great to be able to share with other christians our experience. Chick-a-dee |
