Surrogacy for health reasons?
I am interested in BORN-AGAIN Christian and Messianic Jewish opinions on using a surrogate to gestate an embryo created from my egg and dh sperm?? Unlike using an unknown donor, we would be the genetic parents of our child. Is this an option for believing people if the mom's health cannot sustain a pregnancy?? Thanks for the opinions! Cheers-Tiff

I don't see any problems with that. God has given the technology for that kind of procedure and I don't see anything moraly wrong with it. What a blessing it would be for you.

I am not a BORN-AGAIN Christian or Messianic Jewish person but I would like to give you an opinion. I say if you have the money it is worth it. But you have to know your states laws regarding surrogacy, and you have to really trust the lady you choose to carry your baby. As for the states laws regarding surrogacy - like Michigan it is hard to find an OB office that will do the invetro and you can not pay the surromom for her services. You also have to have a pre-birth order given by a judge in her (surromoms) city's courts at least 6 months before the baby is born for you to be considered the birth mom, or be on the birth certificate. These are just some of the problems I have ran into in my search. But like I said before Yes it would be worth it as long as you check into every aspect of it. My best wishes to you!

I think that the primary consideration with surrogacy is the same with any IVF. Most labs fertilize several eggs, some of which are implanted while others are frozen for potential use. They remain in this limbo until they are either used or killed. This treatment of life is cetainly a problem for those that believe in Biblical teaching.
However, there is good news. While I have no personal experience with IVF, I have been told that some labs will implant only the number that the woman is willing to carry--to avoid an abortion to reduce the number--and will not produce the excess to freeze at the request of the couple. It may take a little shopping around, but you may be able to find one that will make the procedural adjustments. Honestly, I prefer adoption to IVF or surrogacy. However, if this is the route that you choose to take, it would seem that the above concessions are necessary to stay within the Biblical confines. I wish you the best. |
