Will "Bible Study" Moms Impact this Presidential Election?

Will Bible Study Moms Transform This Race?
September 16, 2008, as seen on CBN- Christian Broadcasting News Website:

The Brody File has been told that there are plans underway to organize a “Faith Moms” rally for Sarah Palin when she takes on Senator Biden at the October 2nd debate in St. Louis. The McCain camp is not behind it. It’s being organized by a couple of unnamed (for now) Evangelical groups.

We’ve heard a lot of talk about “hockey moms” ever since Sarah Palin entered the race. And yes, Palin is attracting these strong, Independent fierce, “pit bulls with lipstick” for sure. But the enthusiasm and the “get out of your seats and do something” spirit looks to be coming from what we may want to call “Bible Study Moms”.

These moms are the millions across this country who are ecstatic that McCain picked a strong Christian woman as his running mate. These are the moms who go to their Bible studies in the middle of the week and send in checks to places like Concerned Women for America and other Christian organizations. Finally, these women will proclaim that we have our Hillary Clinton. These moms (who consider themselves politically astute) probably were not all that motivated to vote for McCain before Palin but now are jazzed and telling friends.

Obama has quite a bit of enthusiasm and tons of volunteers. Can these "Bible Study Moms" mobilize fervently for McCain now? Some may volunteer physically but in "Bible Study Mom" land it's also all about the email circulating and word of mouth. That's powerful when it comes to getting out to vote. By the way let me make perfectly clear that Palin is reasonating with more than just Christian women but the point here is that this key group is now much more energized.

Evangelical leader, Reverend Patrick Mahoney, tells me the following:

It's fascinating what is going between Palin and these "Faith Moms." It is not something that is being hyped by the media or being manufactured by the campaigns. There is a true, honest, sincere bonding that is going on that is quite extraordinary. Politics these days is so orchestrated it comes as a breath of fresh air when something completely unexpected breaks on the scene. They sense that she is one of them and for the first time understands their struggles and hopes.

I was just talking with a leading republican activist and organizer from Bedford, New Hampshire and she was saying how Palin has changed the dynamic of the race overnight. This woman, Shannon, has four children her husband is affluent and all her female friends are talking about Palin. In my own house, my wife and daughter got tickets to see Palin in Northern Virginia. That is something they have never done before.

A good friend, who owns a business in Virginia, got up at 6:00 A.M. with here daughter to see Palin. These are professional women, well educated women, stay at home moms, who have been captured by the Palin Mystique. Most of these women, all women of faith, have never gone to a political rally before and I think this kind of energy will translate into votes and passion this November.

Are you one of these “Bible Study Moms”? The Brody File would love to hear from you.

I am a McCain/Palin supporter and I do hope that McCain's choice of a running mate will help in the election.

I vote on the basis of a candidate's stance on the protection of life. IMO, it does not matter what kinds of social programs you have to offer if you don't allow others to live to benefit from those social programs. The gift of live should be protected first, then we can work on the other issues. There's no benefit from a healthier environment or a peaceful world if you're not alive to experience it.

Thanks wantaskinbaby for sharing and I echo your sentiments. I love the quote of Ronald Reagan regarding the issue of Life/Abortion:
"I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born." ~Ronald Reagan, quoted in New York Times, 22 September 1980.

As an adoptee I recognize the amazing privilege of the gift of life- knowing that had I been conceived today I would have been most likely a victim of abortion. ( my birth mother was 32 years of age with cancer and a communicable disease, alcoholism and a rocky marriage. I came 2 mos early- a real risk for the mother- but abortion was not a legal option back then. I am so thankful!!! The law of the land in 1955 was Life for babes in the womb- the law embraced the sanctity of human life.

I love Reagan's quote- how callous and selfish people can become when someone's "choice" did not impact whether they lived or died or a loved one lived or died. How detached people can become from the true realities and the tragedy and suffering of abortion ( You rarely hear about how women navigate emotionally AFTER an abortion ) Choosing abortion is death and a finality, choosing to parent or choosing adoption is a life-giving option that lives on and gives HOPE.

I agree, if a candidate cannot support the "least of these" the unborn- who have no voice and are defenseless and helpless to save themselves- it does shine a light on their character on all matters.

Blessings,
Jody

Governor Ronald Reagan

It's interesting that you would choose to quote Ronald Reagan about abortion. It just seems a bit ironic to me that when he was Governor of California, he signed into law the Therapeutic Abortion Act of 1967. This was six years before the infamous Roe v. Wade decision.

If you talk to anyone who came of age before Roe v. Wade, you'll discover that abortion was always an option, just not a legal one. It has been practiced in some form ever since the dawn of time. When my 16-year-old mother became pregnant with me in 1954, she was offered an illegal abortion as an alternative. She and my dad turned down my great-aunt's offer. But my mom's best friend, the daughter of a judge in Pasadena who became pregnant at the same time, underwent the procedure. Illegal abortions were performed daily in this country, with some horrendous results.

I hope no one ever has to witness the results of a botched abortion. Many years ago, I took care of a woman who had gone to a midwife for an illegal abortion. She and her husband were poor and couldn't afford a doctor. Long story short...she died of a raging uterine infection about a week later. It was a painful, horrible, lingering death...something I hope to God to never witness again in my lifetime.

Please tell that to the working poor who are my clients... who chose life and are now struggling to feed their children because they cannot afford food. Most make just a little too much to qualify for anything. I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who is willing to give tax cuts to people making over $250,000.00 all the while proposing more cuts to existing programs.

My son & daughter were concieved AFTER Roe v. Wade. When I see these words you typed I find it insulting to the very core of who I am.

As a birthmother I chose life and I would appreciate your not making such general statements.

I would also point out as Raven did that abortion has been going on since the dawn of time and was therefore practiced long before Roe.

I can honestly say that had abortion been leagl and easily accessable, by bmom would have been first in line and that is a FACT.
Janey,
I am sorry you feel insulted antd took that statement personal, but there are those of us that have found out after reunion that this most likely would have been the case.

The sad reality is that not all Bmoms are like those here who love and want their children. My Bmom happened to be a VERY selfish woma who put her own wants first.

Dear EZ2Luv,

I'm sorry your mother was such a selfish person and that you have had to struggle with her legacy. It is a long road to travel; that kind of understanding of what another person's actions have cost us in our lives.

My dad was a cop. Too bad he wasn't a fireman; then he wouldn't have been ruthless.

Wishing you all better days,

Janey

This is the deciding factor me as well. I'm not a fan of either candidate this year. I wish Alan Keyes had won the Republican primary. However, he didn't...so I will vote pro-life.

My mother struggled immensely to feed her 4 kids, thanks to a deadbeat dad. We lived for a year without running water. We had holes in the floor, ceilings and walls. But our house was full of love. I thank God she has always let us know that we were worth the struggles.

Today I have the same commitment to my kids. I would live in a tent if I had to, to provide for my kids.

I'm sorry your struggling clients don't feel the same.

Ravensong, my stepmother in law is now infertile due to her abortion. It was a legal abortion. The fact women died from illegal abortions doesn't change the fact that many women are made infertile and yes, even die today due to the same problems. But today the abortion industry goes to great lengths to cover up these facts.

I hope this does not come across as argumentative. I respect your right to your own opinion.
