That is something that you could ask the social worker that you are working with about.

no, it shouldn't. as long as the person is stable and up to date with medication, therapy, etc. actually, my social worker sees it as a strength. something that has been overcome. the best thing to do is be honest about it. if you aren't up front about it, they may think you are still having issues with it. there's nothing to be ashamed about. it's just like having diabetes or high blood pressure. you use treatment perscribed by the doctor and the symptoms are controlled.

My dh is on anxiety medication, and is "recovering alcoholic". 13 years ago he had a suicide attempt, brought on by the combination of anxiety meds and alchohol. When we went through our home studdy he had to go see a therapist, that declared him to not be a risk, as he has been sober since the suicide incident, and manages his anxiety with meds. Not only did we get licensed as foster parents, but we have two finailzed adoptions.

It does kind of depend on the adoption worker as to how much reassurance they'll need before approving your home study. Depression affects so, so many. The cw may have a bit of concern with bipolar however like the other posters are saying, likely the state will just want to know there is stability and the child won't be negatively effected as a result of the illness.
