Am I doomed,......Deuteronomy 23:2 says, ‘No bastard shall enter the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the LORD.’

What you need to remember is that the bible is written by a number of people and that it does contradict itself. Take a look at some other verses that do support adoption/ orphaned children
John 11:52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. Exodus 2:10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water. 1 Chronicles 28:6 And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. Deut 10:17,18 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. Psalm 27:10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. John 14:18 I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you. Psalm 113:9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.

I struggled with that one umbilical child as well....and thought that I was cursed becasue of being illigitemate.....
but I am finding that God is a God of mercy and Grace.....and he loves the orphans...... and he gives us knew name as he welcomes us in...wehre we dont have to label ourselves as outsiders of anything anymore.....because we belong to him.... shef |

Hi. I'm not able to quote scripture to you, but there is John 3:18 (I think) that says - basically - whoever believes will have eternal life. I take that to mean that if you are a believer, and if you are a true Christian, then you will enter into the Kingdom of God. I have a hard time wrapping my head around a God that would condemn you - and the next 10 generations of your lineage - for the so-called sins of your parents. I also am of the opinion that the old testament God was harsher than the new testament God... and was quicker to condemn sinners and impose harsher penalties.(I think having a son softened him up a bit!!)
If the Bible states that we can be forgiven of sins, why would an illegitimate child bear the brunt of his parents' sins? I would certainly hope not! Have you considered posing this question to a Priest/Minister/Reverend/Rabbi etc.? I would be interested in how they respond! Tammi

I think Diane hit it on the head really. For every verse you find that applies, you'll find another one that contradicts.
Besides...if you think about it...Jesus was essentially adopted. I mean, if you believe in his immaculate conception, then that means he was raised by Joseph, his adoptive father... ![]()
