How many of you do homeschooling or private schooling with your children?
I've just been wondering about this while I've been hearing different stories from others and while I've thought some on what I will do when my new hubby and I start raising our children and have to consider where we want them to get their best schooling from.
It is a ways off for me to have a child that's 5 and have to start making these decisions, but it's something I've thought about more than once and have been wondering how many of you are homeschooling your children or have put them in private schools? I just find myself already thinking about this at times and feeling that public school may not be the best option after all by the time I will be looking to put my future children into school. Just some of my rambling thoughts here.

When DH and I were discussing children(before we had any) I was strongly geared toward home schooling and he was on the fence. We both have Masters degrees and are involved in college teaching although he had been a high school teacher for a while. When DD was 5 we weren't in a position to do home schooling, so she went to the local public school. She has turned out to be such a social butterfly that it has worked so well for her. She has excelled. We do live in a small town of 8000, but our system is so wonderful. As parents we are very involved in the schools and even though they can't offer many of the things we had in our big town schools, we feel she is getting the things that she needs to achieve her goals. She starts 6th grade in the fall and she is one of the top kids in her grade. She is also part of the gifted and talented class.
I feel I could have given her many of the things she needed as far as education, but the things she has gotten by being involved in 4H, G&T, music/art classes and UIL(University Interscholastic League- a academic/athletic competition in Texas), I could not have given her because of where we live. |
