Question for Dyson owners

For those of you with Dyson vacuum cleaners; what do you like about them and what do you NOT like about them (if anything)?

I need to get a new vacuum and have seen nothing but rave reviews of them, but the price is still holding me back.

My house is about half carpet and half wood floors. Will the Dyson work on both, or do I still need a separate vacuum for the non-carpeted floors?

Thanks!

Hi! We bought our Dyson "Animal" (the purple one) in June. We LOVE it!!!! We have three dogs and a cat and it is a huge help with the pet hair. I do not have hard wood floors so I really don't know about how it works on them.

The one thing that I dislike is the wand. It is pretty cumbersome to use. Luckily, I convinced my dh that since I vacuum the carpets, the least he can do is the trim

What I like best is the ability to flip a switch and move from carpet to hardwood! I hate using a broom, or electric broom on hardwood. I think the Dyson is the best vacuum on the market -- at least, it is the best I've ever used. My last vacuum was a very expensive upright (a Sharp) and sure enough, after a few years, it just didn't have the suction (I sound like a commercial).

I dislike the wand. I agree with Casey, it is cumbersom. Dyson sent me another one that is easier to remove and reinstall. They have excellent customer service.

That is just what I wanted to hear! I am so sick of storing multiple vacuums. Which model do you have?

I am assuming because neither of you are very fond of the wand, it probably isn't great for stairs? (I am assuming with the size of the Dyson, the wand would really be your only option for stairs.)

I like your logic Casey677, though I suspect if I used that in my house, the trim would never get cleaned!

Thanks for your input!

I've been wanting one of these forever!! Nice to know the recommendations.

I've got 3 pets & 4 kids...does it really suck up that pet hair like it says it does? My current one does okay but I still have to vacuum at least 3 times a week. Would this one save me time?

I have the red one (it's very cute I don't think it's the Animal but one step down from the top of the line.

No, I don't find it easy to use on the steps, but it's doable. There is a little floor attachment that I think is for under beds and steps, but I've never bothered to try it.

I use the every other week method for trim work!

Crick -- I suspect it would save you time. It really does have better suction. You'd still probably have to vacuum more than once a week with your menagerie

Dyson feedback

Debbie-

I have the purple/pet hair model. I agree with the above posters, that it is wonderful. It is amazing how much it picks up! I do find it a pain to switch for tool use.
Good luck with your decision.

Crick, I have 4 pets and I vacuum once a week. It does a really good job of getting all the hair up.

I've got 2 dogs in the house and wanted to get a new vaccuum. I had a 1980 model Kirby that was on it's last leg that I inherited from my Granny. I looked at the Dyson vaccuums but couldn't make myself spend the money. I did end up buying a Hoover Fusion from Wal-Mart. I can't compare it to the Dyson cause I've never used one but that thing is wonderful. I didn't know that I had so much dirt in my carpet. It was quite embarassing the first time I ever used it. It's comparable to the Dyson and has the never looses suction perk to it also.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Don't know if it's what you're looking for but it may be worth checking out.

I could not live without my Dyson. I have four pets and I have the yellow (regular) Dyson and this works so well on pet hair and really gets the carpet clean.

My only issue is of course the wand for the attachments, I am not crazy about the way it is set up.

It however stretches so far that I can leave the vaccum at the botton of the steps and use the attachments all the way to the top.

I will warn you it is heavy , but I wouldn't give it up, it is actually easy to manuever.
